Poor Ticket Sales Plagues Mayweather’s Final Fight
After the “Fight of the Century” blunder that showed more running and ducking than actual fighting, it seems many boxing fans are now fed up with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Despite leaving as the champion of that controversial bout against crowd-favorite Manny Pacquiao, the ticket sales for his upcoming match isn’t attracting enough buyers.
Scheduled to happen September 12, 2015, he will be facing off with American boxer Andre Berto. Mayweather has previously said that the upcoming welterweight world title battle will be his “49th and final fight” but judging by the sales, it looks like no one is really interested.
Compared with the Pacquiao match, tickets are unbelievably much cheaper ranging only between $150 and $1,500. That’s a massive drop considering the fact that Fight of the Century tickets were priced $1,500 to $10,000.
As of this writing, the cheapest seats are the only ones that are almost sold out. 2,100 tickets are still up for grabs.
When asked about it, he only commented “I just try to stay positive and just keep my fingers crossed and just hope for the best. You live and you learn.” He then deferred the question to Leonard Ellerbe who chalked it all up to “normal business.”
I guess it can be safely said that this fight is shaping up to be a certified box office flop.
