'Tanim-bala' Scam: What You Should Do If You're A Victim
MANILA - Public Attorney's Office (PAO) chief Persida Acosta on Monday advised travelers to call the PAO hotline if they are accused of carrying a bullet in a Philippine airport.
In a Facebook post, Acosta urged victims of the "tanim-bala" scam to get in touch with the PAO immediately.
"Please call PAO hotline 929-94-36 or 029299436 in case you are being charged of alleged "laglag bala," Acosta said in a Facebook post.
The PAO cellphone hotline, meanwhile, is 09192625190.
She also explained that the incriminatory act of planting evidence is punishable by arresto mayor or jail time of between one month and one day, and six months.
"Any incriminatory act of planting evidence can be criminally charged of 'incriminatory machinations' under Article 363 of the Revised Penal Code (arresto mayor) and Section 38 of the Comprehensive Firearms Act R.A. No. 10591," Acosta said.
"Re- planting of ammunition punishable of the penalty of reclusion perpetua (30 years)," she added.
