Landfall Update on Typhoon MELOR (NONA)
At 10:50 AM PhT (02:50 GMT) today, Monday, December 14, 2015, the Eye of Powerful Typhoon MELOR (NONA) has slightly accelerated westward and made landfall as forecasted by WeatherPhilippines - over the Shores of Laoang, Northern Samar, or about 45 km East-Northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar [12.6N 125.1E]...with maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center and gustiness up to 230 kph.
The WPF Automated Weather Station (AWS) over Laoang has recorded wind gusts reaching 122 kph blowing from the West-Northwest, 40 minutes (10:10 am) before the arrival of the Eye. As of now, the station has stopped sending data due to possible cellsite network problems.
